🇷🇺 Russia’s National Flag Day - August 22
🇷🇺 Russia’s National Flag Day - August 22 Every year on August 22, Russia celebrates National Flag Day, honoring one of the country’s most recognizable symbols - the white, blue and red tricolor. 🇷🇺 A brief history The Russian tricolor has a history that goes back more than three centuries. It became associated with the Russian state under Peter the Great, who established the white-blue-red flag as a national symbol in the late 17th century. The tricolor was officially restored as Russia’s national flag in 1991, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. On August 22, 1991, the white-blue-red flag was raised over the Russian parliament in Moscow, and the date later became National Flag Day. 🎉 How is it celebrated? National Flag Day is marked by events across Russia, including: 🇷🇺 Flag-raising ceremonies 🎶 Concerts and cultural performances 🏛️ Educational and historical exhibitions 🚩 Patriotic public events and parades 📸 People displaying the Russian tricolor in public spaces and on social media Cities often decorate streets and public buildings in the colors of the national flag, while schools and cultural institutions organize activities dedicated to Russian history and national symbols. 🇷🇺 Why does the flag matter? A national flag is more than a piece of fabric. It represents a country’s history, identity, sovereignty and unity. For many Russians, the tricolor is connected with important moments in the country’s past and serves as a visible symbol of belonging and national identity. August 22 is therefore not only about the colors white, blue and red-it is a day to reflect on the history and meaning behind one of Russia’s most important national symbols. For every patriot, the national flag carries a special emotional meaning. It has witnessed military and sporting victories, remarkable achievements in work and industry, as well as scientific and cultural accomplishments. The flag reminds us that we are all connected to the destiny of our Motherland. It inspires pride in our country and encourages us to make our own contribution to its development and prosperity.
