🎓 Teacher’s Day in Russia: more than just flowers and congratulations
🎓 Teacher’s Day in Russia: more than just flowers and congratulations Every year on 5 October, Russia celebrates Teacher’s Day. For many people, this holiday brings memories of school, favourite teachers, flowers, concerts, and warm words of thanks. 📚 A little history Teacher’s Day became an official holiday in the Soviet Union in 1965. At first, it was celebrated on the first Sunday of October. Since 1994, Russia has celebrated Teacher’s Day on 5 October, together with World Teachers’ Day. 🌷 How is it celebrated? There are many traditions connected with this day. Students often bring flowers, cards, and small presents to their teachers. Schools organize concerts, songs, poems, and special performances. In some schools, older students may organize activities or even teach lessons for younger children. Teachers also receive messages from parents, colleagues, and former students. For many teachers, one of the best presents is a message from a student they taught many years ago. It shows that their work was remembered and really mattered. 💡 Why are teachers so important? A teacher does much more than explain maths, grammar, history, literature, or science. Teachers help students learn how to think, communicate, solve problems, work with other people, and take responsibility. Sometimes one supportive teacher can change a student’s attitude to school completely. A teacher can help a shy student become more confident. A teacher can help a child discover a talent. A teacher can even influence a person’s future profession. Many of us remember a good teacher for years after leaving school. ❤️ Why is teaching a vocation (призвание)? Teaching is often called a vocation, not only a profession. Of course, teachers need knowledge. But knowledge alone is not enough. A good teacher also needs patience, kindness, creativity, responsibility, and the ability to listen. Every student is different. Some students understand new information quickly, while others need more time. Some are active and talkative, while others are quiet or afraid of making mistakes. A teacher has to find an individual approach and help different students move forward. That is why teaching is not simply a job. It is work that requires a lot of emotional energy and personal involvement. ✨ Teacher’s Day is more than just flowers, cards, and congratulations. It is a reminder that behind every lesson there is a person who gives their time, energy, knowledge, and patience. We may leave school, forget some formulas and dates, but we often remember the teachers who believed in us. A great teacher does not only prepare us for exams. A great teacher helps prepare us for life. ❤️ #aboutRussia
