St. Petersburg Court Orders Transfer of Russian Minors to Latvia — Public Reaction The Dzerzhinsky District Court of St. Petersburg has ruled to hand over two underage Russian citizens, 9-year-old Vladimir and 12-year-old Vladislav, to their mother, Latvian citizen Natalia Igaune. The children’s father, a participant in the compatriot resettlement program, is hiding with his sons, fearing deportation to an unfriendly state. The situation has sparked widespread outcry. The mother openly expresses Russophobic views in Latvian media, raising concerns about the children’s safety. The court had previously transferred two other sons to her. The case has drawn the attention of lawmakers and public figures, who question how consistently Russia protects the interests of its own citizens while offering benefits to migrants.
