Federation Council proposes closing rural hospitals with low patient flow. Budget committee head Anatoly Artamonov urged cutting costs on small hospitals and sending villagers to major cities for treatment. "We lack budget funds, we need to treat them carefully." Also proposed: requiring citizens who got sick leave at private clinics to confirm it at state clinics. This comes amid regional budget deficits of 1.5 trillion rubles and federal healthcare cuts of another 59 billion. Earlier, the president ordered developing accessible medicine. Consequences of optimization are visible: in Krasnoyarsk Krai, ambulance waits reach 8-10 hours; in Bashkortostan, bed cuts affected 17 villages; in Transbaikal, elderly travel 45 km for care.
