The First Interdepartmental Meeting of the Student Scientific Circle in Pediatric Surgery Held at NSMU The Northern State Medical University (NSMU) hosted the first interdepartmental meeting of the student scientific circle in pediatric surgery, with participation from representatives of four leading medical universities in Russia. The event was organised in a remote format. Participating institutions included: Northern State Medical University (Arkhangelsk); Bashkir State Medical University (Ufa); Siberian State Medical University (Tomsk); Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (Moscow). Moderators and guests of the event were: 🔹 Maria Yuryevna Yanskaya (Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor at the Department of Pediatric Surgery, NSMU, Arkhangelsk). 🔹 Roza Khurmatovna Shangareeva (Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor at the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Bashkir State Medical University, Ufa). 🔹 Grigory Vladimirovich Slizovsky (Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Children’s Surgical Diseases, Siberian State Medical University, Tomsk). 🔹 Ramik Aramovich Keshishyan (Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor at the Department of Hospital Surgery with a Course in Pediatric Surgery, PFUR, Moscow). 🔹 Pyotr Ivanovich Manzhos (Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Hospital Surgery with a Course in Pediatric Surgery, PFUR, Moscow). During the meeting, presentations were given on current issues in surgical pathology of childhood: 🔹 «Hirschsprung’s Disease» — Ilfak Khasbuttinov (1st‑year resident, pediatric surgeon, Bashkir State Medical University, Ufa). The report reviewed modern approaches to diagnosis and staged surgical treatment of colonic aganglionosis. 🔹 «Pilonidal Sinus (Epithelial Coccygeal Tract)» — Dariya Vladimirovna Musalimova (5th‑year student, Siberian State Medical University, Tomsk). The presentation provided an analysis of the etiopathogenesis, classification, and methods of radical treatment of pilonidal disease in children. 🔹 «Paraproctitis in Children» — Mikhail Borisovich Balagurov (1st‑year resident, pediatric surgeon, PFUR, Moscow). The talk covered differential diagnosis of various forms of paraproctitis and indications for surgery depending on the location of the inflammatory process. 🔹 «Diagnostic Errors in Identifying Causes of Lower Gastrointestinal Bleeding in Children» — Svetlana Vladimirovna Cherkaska (1st‑year resident, pediatric surgeon, NSMU, Arkhangelsk). Using clinical cases, the speaker reviewed typical diagnostic oversights in identifying sources of hematochezia in young children and proposed algorithms to optimise examinations. Maria Yuryevna Yanskaya commented on the outcomes of the meeting: "The students and residents demonstrated a high level of preparation. The meeting proved truly productive and helped strengthen scientific ties between the departments of the universities. Such experience is valuable not only for students but also for faculty members, as it takes interaction with students to a new level and enables planning of inter‑university research, which undoubtedly enhances their scientific value and practical significance". The materials of the presentations have been recommended for further discussion within the relevant sections of the Student Scientific Circle.
