60 students from NSMU, together with practicing doctors from Arkhangelsk, took part in a master class given by Professor Eduard Abdulkhaevich Gallyamov, Head of the Department of General Surgery at the First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University). The master classes, led by a leading specialist in the field of minimally invasive surgery in Russia, were organized at one of the clinical bases of our university — the Northern Medical Center named after N. A. Semashko. Professor Gallyamov came to Arkhangelsk at the invitation of Vladimir Alexandrovich Kislov, Head of the Department of General Surgery at NSMU. During the master classes, the renowned surgeon performed three complex operations: 🔹 On a patient with ureteral stricture: laparoscopic ureteral reimplantation. 🔹 On a patient with a hiatal hernia: laparoscopic fundoplication. 🔹 On a patient with rectal tumour: laparoscopic bowel resection. According to Professor Gallyamov, such master classes help future doctors not only to grow professionally, but also to gain something more: “There are many students here today — and that’s wonderful. Yes, some of these operations are already familiar to them from textbooks and lectures. But the goal of our event is not just to demonstrate the technique. The main thing is to create a special atmosphere of immersion in the profession. Let the students feel the spirit of surgery, see it from the inside. Perhaps it is here that someone will find inspiration and realize: this is their path. After all, interest in surgery is born not only from knowledge — it is born from experience and live communication with mentors”. Vladimir Alexandrovich Kislov emphasized the high practical value of hands‑on experience for future surgeons: “For young people, future surgeons, seeing a specialist of such caliber is a great opportunity. It’s a chance to listen to their stories from clinical practice, to observe their actions in the operating room — they can already see what they should strive for in their future professional career, what heights to reach". A practice‑oriented approach to education opens up unique opportunities for NSMU medical students. They can get acquainted with cutting‑edge techniques, watch complex surgeries in real time, and discuss them with leading experts.
