At the Northern State Medical University (NSMU), a solemn event was held dedicated to the twenty‑third graduation of the “Sisters of Mercy” courses. The event began with a welcoming speech and the announcement of the graduation order, delivered by the Head of the “Sisters of Mercy” courses, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Lyudmila Evgenyevna Gromova. 🔹 The 58 graduates received their course completion certificates from the hands of Professor Valeria Ivanovna Makarova, Head of the Department of Propedeutics of Childhood Diseases and Outpatient Pediatrics, and Professor Alexander Ivanovich Makarov of the Department of Surgery. The work of the course instructors was recognised with letters of gratitude. This year, among the graduates, there are 3 Brothers of Mercy. Marina Gennadievna Dyachkova, Vice‑Rector for Regional Healthcare Development and Continuing Professional Education, congratulated the course graduates on the successful completion of their studies and emphasised the importance and depth of the mission of the Sisters and Brothers of Mercy: “Although Sisters of Mercy possess medical skills, their service is much broader. This course places emphasis on a personal approach, where attention is directed to the emotional and spiritual needs of patients. Your work is not just a professional duty, but also compassion, faith, and motivation — a combination of practical assistance with emotional support, and this is the most important thing. Today we can say that Sisters of Mercy are those for whom helping people has become a calling”. 🔹 Over 23 years of the courses’ operation, more than 500 Sisters and Brothers of Mercy have been trained. Today, they work in medical and preventive institutions of the city and region, social service centres, diocesan structures, and in the Arkhangelsk City Sisterhood. The solemn meeting was accompanied by performances given to the audience by NSMU students. ❗ The next intake for the Sisters of Mercy courses will traditionally begin on 1 November, the birthday of Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt.
