A student from NSMU (Northern State Medical University) took first place in the All‑Russian competition and became the best in Russia among students of secondary vocational education! Second‑year students of the Nursing Faculty Alena Shakhova and Egor Ostrovsky performed admirably at the 2nd All‑Russian Competition for Medical and Pharmaceutical Colleges in the “Student of the Year” nomination. They participated in the competition as winners of the university’s internal olympiad in the specialty “Preventive Dentistry”. The competition consisted of three stages: 🔹 Remote testing. 🔹 In‑person qualifying round in Saint Petersburg. 🔹 Final stage in Moscow. At the qualifying round in Saint Petersburg, our participants completed three serious challenges: solving a clinical case, defending an individual project, and demonstrating practical skills. ❗ The jury noted Egor and Alena’s high level of theoretical and practical training. ✨ Following the results of the qualifying round, Egor Ostrovsky took 3rd place, and Alena Shakhova took 1st place, which allowed her to advance to the final stage of the competition. Out of 6 000 participants from all over Russia, 143 contestants advanced to the final stage across 15 nominations. The final in Moscow was memorable for its rich programme. Over three competition days, Alena completed individual competition tasks: “Jeopardy‑style quiz” (“Svoya Igra”) and solving a real‑life situational task. Next came the team challenges: a quest involving diagnosis formulation and defending a project on artificial intelligence in medicine, discussing the opportunities and risks of the new technology. ❗️ Despite the fierce competition, Alena emerged victorious, taking 1st place in her “Student of the Year” nomination in the specialty “Preventive Dentistry” and becoming the best in Russia among secondary vocational education students. Alena herself admits that what impressed her most about the competition were the new acquaintances: “So many enthusiastic young people, passionate about their work, gathered from all corners of Russia!” ❤️ The students express deep gratitude to their mentors — Faculty of Nursing teachers Polina Andreevna Pochinkova and Elizaveta Nikolaevna Grebneva — who believed in their potential! The participants also thank the competition organisers: the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Advanced Training and Retraining Centre of the Ministry of Health of Russia, and the Council of Directors of Medical and Pharmaceutical Colleges of Russia — for the excellent organisation, comfortable accommodation, and adherence to the schedule of the challenges. ✨ We are proud of our students! You have proven that professionalism, perseverance, and team spirit lead to victory. We look forward to seeing the participants at subject‑specific olympiads next academic year!
