Meeting with Practicing Doctors: Experience from Medical Missions in Donbass As part of outreach efforts for first‑year students of the Medical Faculty at NSMU, a unique meeting was held with practicing pediatricians from Arkhangelsk. Our guests were specialists who were among the first to travel to the Donetsk People’s Republic to carry out a large‑scale children’s health screening programme. The speakers who addressed their future colleagues were: 🔹 Elena Vyacheslavovna Sloboda — Head of the Department at Arkhangelsk City Clinical Polyclinic No. 2, Pediatric Endocrinologist of the Highest Category (with over 25 years of professional experience). Elena Vyacheslavovna has been on two long‑term assignments in the DPR. 🔹 Tatyana Alexandrovna Babkina — Functional Diagnostics Physician, Pediatric Cardiologist at Polyclinic No. 2 and the Polyclinic of the Northern State Medical University (NSMU), with around 30 years of practical experience. 🔹 Irina Leonidovna Kuftyreva — Pediatric Surgeon, Pediatric Urologist‑Andrologist at Arkhangelsk City Children’s Clinical Polyclinic No. 1 (with over 25 years of professional experience). A large‑scale mobilisation of mobile medical teams across Russia began following an instruction from the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, dated 5 October 2022. The medical teams were tasked by the state with conducting comprehensive preventive health checks for children in the new regions (DPR, LPR, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Oblasts), identifying hidden pathologies, and promptly referring those in need to leading federal clinics for treatment. ❓ What did the speakers discuss? The doctors shared with the students not only clinical cases but also the specifics of working in challenging conditions: 🔹 How the routing of thousands of young patients was organised within a short timeframe. 🔹 What rare and advanced diseases they encountered due to the long absence of routine healthcare in the regions. 🔹 What qualities a true doctor must possess to be ready to help where it is most needed. For the first‑year medical students, this conversation was a vivid lesson in professional duty, medical ethics, and dedication to their future profession.
