Knowledge Day at NSMU: a new academic year, a new chapter in life. Today, the doors of the Northern State Medical University opened for first‑year students. This year, 442 students have been enrolled in higher education programmes; of these, 298 were admitted under the targeted training quota. Every year, the geographical reach of students wishing to study at NSMU expands. This time, the first‑year cohort includes representatives from 32 regions of Russia — from the Belgorod Region to the Kamchatka Territory. The festive events at the university began with a solemn assembly and the flag‑raising ceremony for the Russian Federation. In the assembly hall, Nadezhda Alexandrovna Bylova, Acting Rector of NSMU, addressed the first‑year students with a welcoming speech: “It’s a great joy that you have chosen medicine and our university. You have six years ahead of you, and it may seem like an eternity, but in reality, it’s very little. Use every day to gain knowledge. Studies at NSMU are challenging, but never give up. Keep your perseverance and curiosity alive. Don’t be indifferent: be the person who stops and asks, ‘Are you okay?’ Be the one who notices when someone is struggling and steps in to help. I wish you all a wonderful student experience and a successful professional journey!” Tatiana Valeryevna Rusinova, Deputy Minister of Health of the Arkhangelsk Region, congratulated the students and faculty of NSMU on Knowledge Day. She emphasised that the 2026 admissions campaign demonstrated a high level of interest among young people in the medical profession and in studying at the Northern State Medical University: “Many generations of NSMU graduates are already working in the healthcare organisations of our region. You have chosen an outstanding educational institution with nearly a century of history and a highly professional teaching staff. The 2026 admissions campaign showed that around 4,000 applications were submitted to NSMU — this reflects the strong interest young people have in the profession”. The university’s guests also congratulated the first‑year students on the start of their major journey in medicine: 🔹 Sergey Valentinovich Krasilnikov — Deputy of the Arkhangelsk Regional Assembly of Deputies, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Social Policy and Healthcare. 🔹 Konstantin Vitalievich Baryshkov — Chairman of the public organisation “Association of Healthcare Organisers of the Arkhangelsk Region”. 🔹 Alexander Vladimirovich Ilyin — Deputy Head of the Interregional Office of Rospotrebnadzor for the Arkhangelsk Region and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. After the event, the first‑year students met with the deans of their faculties and tutors, who gave them a short tour of the university building. We congratulate the first‑year students on this new and important stage in their lives! We wish all students, residents, and postgraduate students success in the new academic year!
