✨ Associate Professor of the Department of Family Medicine and Internal Diseases at the Northern State Medical University, Candidate of Medical Sciences Svetlana Vladimirovna Yuryeva delivered a presentation at the All‑Russian Conference with international participation “A Multidisciplinary Approach to Patient Management in General Medical Practice”. The conference was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Department of Family Medicine at the North‑Western State Medical University named after I. I. Mechnikov and took place in Saint Petersburg on 5–6 October. 🔹The main idea of the forum was to demonstrate that a modern patient rarely fits into the narrow boundaries of a single medical specialty: comorbidity, complex clinical cases, and the need for personalised care require coordinated work by doctors from various fields. That is why the focus was on the mechanisms of interaction between specialists and on building a unified treatment pathway — from the first visit to a clinic to rehabilitation. 🔹The programme included presentations by otorhinolaryngologists, dentists, pulmonologists, cardiologists, and doctors of other specialties, as well as masterclasses on instrumental diagnostic methods — from spirometry to otoscopy. Svetlana Vladimirovna presented her report “Multifocal Atherosclerosis. Managing a Patient with Peripheral Arterial Disease” at the conference. “The conference clearly demonstrated how interdisciplinary the modern approach to patient management has become and how important a comprehensive view is — without it, effective work by a family doctor is impossible. My presentation focused on managing patients with multifocal atherosclerosis and diseases of the arteries of the lower extremities. I presented data from recent studies, including those conducted by our team at the Northern State Medical University: the results of our own research on risk factor assessment, as well as algorithms for diagnosing multifocal atherosclerosis and lesions of the arteries of the lower extremities. The practical relevance of these data has been confirmed in the university’s clinical setting, which enhances their applicability in a doctor’s everyday practice. Timely initiation of therapy is a real contribution to increasing patients’ life expectancy and reducing mortality.”
