Interviewer:
Interviewer: Thank you for speaking with me today. I’m conducting a study about people’s experiences and perceptions of living in a city. I’d like to ask you some questions. [2-second pause] Now, do you currently live in a big city, a small town, or a village? Ваш ответ: Well, given my hectic schedule, I currently live in a big city - and without a shadow of a doubt, it's the best fit for my lifestyle. I work long hours, and the city gives me everything within arm's reach: offices, gyms, cafes, and of course transport. It could be argued that small towns offer a quieter and cheaper life, and there is a prevailing view among experts that living close to nature reduces stress. And honestly, as frequently as I would like, I don't manage to escape to the countryside, though I really try. Still, in my view, the advantages of the city outweigh the downsides. Not only does it provide endless career opportunities and dating pool, but it also allows me to meet people from all walks of life. What strikes me most about big cities is the pace of change: back in the day, people used to shop in small local stores and know all their neighbours, whereas nowadays it is all about ordering everything online with a single tap. All in all, I can say that I am inclined to believe that a big city is the right place for me at this stage of my life - maybe one day, when life slows down, I'll trade the noise for a peaceful village. But for now, I wouldn't change a thing. Почему такой ответ работает на TOEFL: Есть прямое утверждение + обоснование (городской образ жизни, работа). Присутствует контраст (a small town vs a big city) - за это оценивают развитие идей. Формулировки вроде it could be argued that и there is a prevailing view among experts показывают академический регистр. Ответ звучит естественно, как живая речь, а не заученный шаблон.
