Valentine’s Day in Russia: Love or Controversy? ❤️
Valentine’s Day in Russia: Love or Controversy? ❤️ Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 1️⃣4️⃣. In many countries it is a day of love, romance and warm feelings. In Russia, however, people have different opinions about this holiday.⚡️ Valentine’s Day became popular in Russia in the 1990s. Young people especially liked it. They started to give small cards called “valentines”, flowers, chocolate and little gifts. Couples often go to cafés or restaurants for a romantic dinner. Schools sometimes organize special post boxes where students can send anonymous valentines to their classmates.🩷🎓 ⛔️However, not everyone in Russia supports this holiday. Some people think it is too commercial and only about buying expensive gifts. Others believe it is a foreign tradition that is not part of Russian culture. Instead, they prefer to celebrate Russian holidays connected with love and family. ❤️For example, Russia has its own holiday - Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. It is celebrated on July 8 and is connected with Orthodox Christian traditions. On this day people talk about strong families, loyalty and true love. Today, many Russians have a neutral attitude to Valentine’s Day. Some celebrate it in a simple way, others ignore it. But in general, it is another reason to say kind words and show love to people who are important to us.
