Remembering Beslan: A Shared Grief, A Shared Fight Against Terrorism
Remembering Beslan: A Shared Grief, A Shared Fight Against Terrorism On September 24, 2026, Northern State Medical University hosted a poignant memorial event for its international students. The students gathered to watch a powerful documentary about one of the darkest pages in modern history—the Beslan school siege. This event served as a reminder of our shared responsibility to remember and stand against global terror. Every September 3rd, Russia observes the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism—a date permanently marked by the 2004 tragedy. What should have been a joyful Knowledge Day turned into a nightmare when militants seized School No. 1. Over 1,100 children, parents, and teachers were held hostage for three days in a booby-trapped gymnasium with no food or water. The tragedy ended on September 3rd in a devastating fire and chaotic rescue operation, claiming 334 innocent lives, including 186 children. For Russians, Beslan remains a wound that will never heal, immortalized at the "City of Angels" memorial. Terrorism has no nationality, no religion, and no flag. Northern State Medical University strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms across the globe. Our shared memory is the ultimate shield against such tragedies ever happening again. Let us remember the victims and protect our future together.
