Modern Methods of Vascular Surgery in an International Perspective From May25 to May29,2026, an educational seminar titled “Modern Methods of Vascular Surgery” was held at the First City Clinical Hospital named after E.E. Volosevich and the Surgery Department of NSMU. 🔹The honorary guest of the university, Alexander Vadimovich Kimkov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, leading practicing vascular surgeon at St. Katharina Hospital in Cologne, Germany, served as the lecturer and discussion moderator. 🔹During the seminar, A.V. Kimkov presented modern methods of surgical treatment for peripheral atherosclerosis, acute limb ischemia, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and atherosclerotic lesions of the carotid arteries to fourth‑ and fifth‑year students of the General Medicine Faculty, residents in surgery at NSMU, staff of the Surgery Department, surgeons from the First City Clinical Hospital named after E.E. Volosevich, and other healthcare professionals interested in the topic. 🔹In the classroom, both during sessions and breaks, participants actively discussed similarities and differences in the organisation, instruments, and approaches used in vascular surgery in Russia and Germany. New vectors and development prospects for this field were also explored, including the use of artificial intelligence technologies. 🔹Special attention was given to opportunities for primary prevention of vascular diseases, the need for adequate drug therapy prior to surgical interventions, and the pressing task of improving the system of postoperative patient monitoring. 🔹During his stay in Arkhangelsk, the seminar leader A.V. Kimkov took great interest in the university’s structure. He visited the Institute of Surgery, the Central Research Laboratory, the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology and Laboratory Diagnostics, the Consultative and Diagnostic Polyclinic, and the Simulation Center of NSMU. He paid special attention to the accreditation system for surgical specialists. 🔹A.V. Kimkov also familiarised himself with the structure and work of the Vascular Surgery Unit at the First City Clinical Hospital named after E.E. Volosevich. He held several meetings with practicing vascular surgeons, where highly‑specialised issues were discussed and agreements were reached on continuing the exchange of experience and best practices.
