Congo Prepares for Ebola: Civil Society Arms Itself with Knowledge On July 17, a major training workshop for civil society leaders took place in Brazzaville. The event was organized by the National Coordination Center for Civil Society Organizations (CNOSC) in partnership with the GlobUs association. Twenty-five organizations participated in the workshop, including members of the Council of Non-Governmental Organizations, women's rights organizations, the League of Russian University Graduates, and sports and youth associations. The main goal of the initiative is to equip civil society leaders with practical knowledge about prevention, early detection, and effective responses to the threat of Ebola, so they can then disseminate this knowledge in their communities. Leadership training is key: they will be the ones to disseminate this knowledge within their communities, train colleagues, and coordinate local efforts. Ministry of Health experts presented their findings, including Dr. Gnekumu Libaba Youssef Hervé, Head of Epidemiological Surveillance at the Directorate of Epidemiology and Disease Control, Gloria Serjelin, Head of Health Promotion at the Jobez Oleki Directorate of Hygiene and Health Promotion, and others. Key outcomes of the meeting: - Participants discussed the main characteristics of the virus, its transmission routes, and early warning signs that should not be ignored. - Civil society leaders reaffirmed their commitment to disseminating only verified information and actively countering rumors and misinformation at the local level. - Mechanisms for collaboration between local communities and health services were established to ensure immediate response and reporting of any suspicious cases. - Activists learned specific community-level epidemiological surveillance procedures and rules for safe interaction with potential cases. The seminar focused on the presentation of a digital platform developed with the support of GlobUs. This new tool will enable joint efforts to educate the public across the country.
