Хоть есть соблазн назвать эту стенку шведской, она не имеет никакого отношения к Скандинавии. В 1960-х гг. такие стенки выпускала швабская компания «Drahtwerke Erlau», которая теперь является мировым лидером по производству противоскользящих цепей, а в те годы изготавливала разные товары из проволоки (Drahtwerke - нем. фабрика по производству проволочных изделий). Автором этих стенок был некий Карл Фихтель, дизайнер из Мюнхена, о котором нам совсем ничего не известно - кроме того, что он придумал несколько разновидностей модульной сетки. В частности, в своих заявлениях на выдачу патента он предлагал использовать такие сетки в качестве систем для хранения самых разных вещей: от одежды (как дома, так и в школах, спортзалах и пр.) до предметов мебели. The designer behind these systems was a certain Karl Fichtel of Munich, about whom we know almost nothing, apart from the fact that he developed several variations of such modular wire-grid structures. In his patent applications, he proposed using such grids as versatile storage systems for all kinds of objects: from clothing - whether in the home, schools, or gyms - to pieces of furniture. The latter, he suggested, could be fitted with holes or hooks and hung on the wall when not in use, freeing up floor space and simplifying cleaning. What appears at first glance to be a lightweight shelving system was, in fact, conceived as a remarkably flexible framework for organizing everyday life - one whose logic feels surprisingly contemporary even today.
