Помните, не так давно мы предлагали для начала рассмотреть один стул в профиль? Вот и сейчас начнем с «боковых проекций», которые восхищают изяществом и легкостью линий и не могут не вызывать вопрос: «А сидеть на этом удобно?» Сидеть, вероятнее всего, действительно не очень удобно (хотя сидят же жители Ганы, Буркина-Фасо и других стран Западной Африки на традиционных стульях лоби, получивших свое наименование от названия одной из местных народностей). Однако эту работу и не следует оценивать с функционалистской точки зрения. Все дело в том, что ее автором был известный итальянский скульптор Карло Мо (1923-2004), а создал он этот стул в лаборатории дизайна, основанной компанией «Tecno» и подарившей миру множество нетривиальных изделий. Судя по всему, Мо спроектировал этот стул, получивший название «Chip», в 1965 г., а в 1991 г. компания «Tecno» переиздала стул ограниченным тиражом. Let’s begin this post with the side views as well because the remarkable lightness and elegance of this piece prompts the question: “But is it actually comfortable to sit on?” Chances are the answer would be negative - although the Lobi people of Ghana, Burkina Faso, and other parts of West Africa have long sat on their traditional stools, from which this object clearly draws inspiration. But to judge this piece by functionalist standards would be to miss the point entirely. Its creator was the celebrated Italian sculptor Carlo Mo (1923–2004), and the chair emerged from the experimental design laboratory established by the Italian company Tecno, a remarkable initiative that produced some of the most unconventional furniture of the postwar period. The chair, aptly named Chip, appears to have been designed around 1965. More than a quarter of a century later, in 1991, Tecno reissued it as a limited edition. To be continued.
